Immunizations
Staying up to date on your vaccines and immunizations not only protects you but also the people around you. Vaccines are recommended throughout people's lives; most adults are not aware of the many vaccines recommended for them. In fact, only about 1 in 5 adults are up to date, leaving many vulnerable. The Drexel Student Health Center has the vaccines you need that are required by the University. These requirements follow the American College Health Association (ACHA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations. To address an administrative hold on your account or upload forms for University compliance, please see the Office of Health Insurance and Immunizations for further details. Below is a list of vaccines required, recommended, and some additional you may consider based on discussions with your healthcare provider. To receive a vaccine at Student Health, you must schedule an appointment to be seen.
Vaccines Required at Drexel University
Vaccine | Why you need it and the dosage required |
---|---|
Hepatitis B (HepB) | Hepatitis B can develop into a serious disease resulting in long-term health problems, including liver damage, liver failure, liver cancer, and even death. All adults younger than 60 are recommended to complete a 2- or 3-dose series of hepatitis B vaccine, depending on the brand. 4 weeks between dose 1 and 2, 8 weeks (about 2 months) between dose 2 and 3, and 16 weeks (about 3 and a half months) between dose 1 and 3 |
Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap, Td) | Diphtheria and pertussis spread from person to person. Tetanus enters the body through cuts or wounds. If you have never received a dose of Tdap, you need to get a Tdap shot now. After that, you need a Tdap or Td booster dose every 10 years. |
Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) | The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps, and rubella (German measles). You need 2 doses of MMR at least 4 weeks apart. |
Varicella (Chickenpox) | Varicella is a common and very contagious childhood viral illness. It also protects against shingles. If you have never had chickenpox, you need 2 doses of the Varicella vaccine 4 weeks apart |
Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) | Protects from infections of the brain and spinal cord lining, and bloodstream infections. You also will need this vaccine if you are a first-year college student living in a residence hall and (1) you have not had a dose since turning 16, or (2) it has been more than 5 years since your last dose. |
Vaccines Strongly Recommended But Optional

Vaccine | Recommendations |
