U.S. Department of Education Approves Drexel and Salus Merger
Today marks a monumental day for interprofessional health sciences education. Drexel University and Salus University have received approval from the U.S. Department of Education to finalize their merger, an achievement that represents a major milestone for both institutions.
This transformative partnership enhances Drexel’s leadership in preparing the next generation of health professionals by integrating Salus University’s renowned professional health science and graduate degree programs, expanding health sciences and opening new avenues for interdisciplinary research and collaboration across disciplines
The Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) will become Drexel’s newest college. Guided by a new dean, soon to be announced, PCO’s rich legacy of more than 100 years will carry forward into this next chapter. All other academic programs currently with Salus University will be integrated into existing Drexel schools.
The pioneering Osborne College of Audiology will continue to lead the profession as it integrates into Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP). Most programs in the Salus College of Health Sciences, Education and Rehabilitation will also merge into CNHP. Salus programs currently in Global, Interprofessional and Specialized Programming, Biomedicine Programs, as well as the Salus Physician Assistant Studies Program, will move to Drexel’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies in the College of Medicine.
On this momentous occasion I am thrilled to welcome new and returning Salus students to our community. This is an exciting new chapter in health sciences education that unites the strengths of our two institutions. My colleagues and I look forward to supporting you on this incredible journey.
Drexel is firmly committed to fostering both personal and professional growth during the final stage of this transition. Academic, financial and personal support services will continue without interruption on what is now the Drexel University Elkins Park campus. Academic advising will remain available at the program level to guide students through their academic journey. Tutoring and counseling services will continue through the Center for Personal and Professional Development, while the Bennett Career Services Center will provide ongoing career development, including workshops, job search and networking skills, mentoring and job placement support — all aimed at fostering student success.
Our path forward as a unified institution holds immense promise and opportunity. I extend my deepest gratitude to all who have dedicated their time, energy and unwavering commitment to bringing us to this pivotal moment.
